Beauty standards are a big deal in Russia. Approaching beauty in a grotesque way, drawing from both grandeur and bleakness of the tsarist Russia, is ironic and relevant.  Finding inspiration in folk, medieval and tsarist Russia is a budding pop-culture trend, replacing the post-Soviet vibe. We aimed to parallel the medieval turmoil with the current decay and stagnation and injustice of Russia under Putin.
