Get your glad rags on gang! Glad Rags is a column where we chat to some of our favourite musician's about their best garms. This week we're joined by East London duo CRISP&CLASSY.
How important is clothing to you for a stage presence?
Extremely important! What we wear on stage is a big part of the CRISP&CLASSY World.
Both of us being 90's kids and growing up in the early 2000’s, Y2K has influenced us a lot. Kat Knix was a proper indie rock chick in her teenage years back in Stockholm, while Plushy worshipped the pop divas and joined r'n'b dance classes in Transylvania.
Mixing our backgrounds, the C&C style has become a joyful mix of ‘Clueless’, a big splash of colours and patterns along with hardcore vintage leather jackets.
We also love everything gender bending, as that usually marries well with our honest and explicit lyrics.

Do you have a different style on stage compared to off stage?
Our style on stage and off stage are quite similar, but we invest more time and effort in our stage outfits. What we wear on stage is a heightened version of what we wear off stage. Plushy loves getting upcoming designers onboard for our live sets, as we find it very important uplifting new talents and want to give them as much exposure as possible.
Do you think image is important for musicians wanting to be successful?
Absolutely, as an artist the music is as important as the image, cause they’re both immensely connected!
We see CRISP&CLASSY as both an audio and a visual experience. The CRISP&CLASSY World is a lifestyle, a concept, a way of living. And we love expressing that not only through our music but also through what we wear.
Who are some of your style inspirations as an artist?
We take inspiration from East London's gritty, flamboyant and diverse nightlife, but what influences us the most are drag performers! We can’t describe in words how much we admire their boldness and carelessness, along with the way they create a stunning gender fuck illusion on stage.
What is your favourite piece of clothing to wear on stage and why?
Plushys’ hair flippin wigs and Kats cowboy fringe jackets! We love wearing things that moves with us when we dance!
What is your favourite piece of clothing to wear offstage and why?
We will always appreciate a blazer, it’s such an amazingly timeless garment that could dress up a casual outfit in such a classy way. We also can’t live without chunky vintage boots and ‘old lady’ bijouterie style jewellery.
Do you think people look down on musicians who like fashion too and if so, why?
Music and fashion go hand in hand! Fashion designers have always been inspired by musicians and vice versa.
When creatives from different fields join forces, we can create such fabulous things together. It has been done many times before and it will be done repeatedly in the future. Cause in the end we all live to create.
How has your style evolved alongside your journey as an artist?
We have become more attentive to what pops on stage and what doesn’t, along with wearing only what makes you happy. For example, we’ve started wearing more colourful garments.
Our journey has also made us more confident in our own skin, which has led to us making more bold and rash fashion decisions, that usually pays off!
What advice would you give someone struggling to find their image as an artist?
This is your opportunity to go balls to the walls and be fearless. Cause on stage more is more!
Think of what colours and shapes that empowers you the most and go to your local charity shop and try on everything.
And don’t forget to always paint your face for the back row!
