Italian illustrator Emma Allegretti is something of a superwoman, with a bag of crisps and bottle of wine in hand. Her powers are to celebrate vulnerability and sensitivity through art that combines realism with fantastical surrealism. Her illustrations depict our everyday scenes, channelling topics of loneliness, self-love, anxiety and shaving your legs. Her work has been commissioned by Gucci Beauty and Superga. She resides in Rome. We gave her some quick-fire questions:

What’s your manta?

I have too many but here are a few:

Who, or what, broke your heart?

Literally don’t know how to answer this question I feel like my heart is constantly broken by love and things and the news and especially the recent pandemic.

Where is the strangest place in Rome?

The Vatican, like literally wtf

What memory still makes you cringe you now?

I have an infinite list, but once I had a crush and wanted to be cool rolling a spliff but I don’t smoke so I fainted.
