How to Make a Full Moon Spell Candle

Make it stand out

A blue moon is the rare occurrence of 2 full moons in one month, and this Halloween saw the second full moon land on the 31st. The moon was in Taurus, meaning this is the perfect time for grounding and reflection. Some candle magic will be a great way to channel this and set some intention into the universe.

The candle will include Sandalwood essential oil, a quartz stone, a moonstone, and some rosemary to enhance grounding and cleansing. Sandalwood is often used for protection and grounding, moonstone promotes calmness and resonates with the full moon’s feminine energy, rosemary protects, and clear quartz helps with clarity and amplifies any spell its used with. With these elements combined, you’re looking at a perfect candle for the full moon and making it yourself will really enhance it to your personal energies.

You will need:

1 glass jar | Soy wax | 1 candle wick | Double sided tape | Sandalwood essential oil | 1 clear quartz | 1 moonstone | Rosemary

Step One

Light some incense (I used sandalwood) to cleanse the area and the tools you’re using. This is the time to really think of your specific intentions of what you want out of using this candle.

Step Two

Fill the jar to the top with the wax. If you want the sandalwood scent to really come through, you should weigh the amount of wax you are about to use and find 10%, this will be the weight of oil you should use.

(If you don’t have time to make the candle yourself, you can always purchase a plain white candle and add the oil, herbs and stones on top.)

Step Three

Once the wax is fully melted, pour in the sandalwood oil and give it a little stir. Again, if you want the scent to be prominent you should add the oil once the wax reaches 85°C.

Step Four

Stick the wick to the bottom of the jar and use a peg to keep it in place. Carefully pour in all the wax and let it sit for about an hour.

Step Five

After about an hour the candle should be setting nicely, the perfect time to add the herbs and stones so they slightly melt into the candle. Add as much rosemary, quartz and moonstone as you like, just be sure to keep space around the wick to ensure a safe burn. Leave the candle to set for a further 24 hours before burning.
